When it comes to loyalty, no creature epitomizes the word better than dogs. When they form a bond, it can last forever, especially if that bond was forged when both sides needed a friend the most. This is the story of Merrill and Taco.
Bonded for life
Merrill, a three-year-old Pit Bull, has been living with eight-year-old Taco, a Chihuahua, for years. They met at Rocket Dog Rescue Shelter. It is a volunteer-based non-profit organization that is dedicated to saving homeless and abandoned dogs from overcrowded shelters.
From the moment the two got together, they were inseparable. They did everything together and rarely left each other’s side. If they were forced apart, both of them would cry and whine loudly until they are reunited. Even when Merrill needed life-saving surgery, Taco was there by his friend’s side.
One day, a man came to the shelter looking for a dog to adopt. He saw Merrill and fell in love with the dog. He filed for adoption, which was eventually approved. When the day came for him to take Merrill home, the dog showed his loyalty to his friend.
No matter how much prodding they gave, the Pit Bull refused to leave his friend’s side. When they tried to carry him away, Merrill cried, and so did Taco. The adoptive father saw how much bonded the two were. And the man didn’t have the heart to break them apart.
Luckily, he had a heart big enough for the two of them. The man decided to take both dogs with him. The shelter agreed. When the papers were done, the bonded dogs happily got into his car and went to their new home.
Merrill and Taco are now living with a new family that has given them everything they could ever need. And more importantly, they have stayed together.
