Late last February, Jean Mariano was on her way back home from a sunrise hike with her dog, Copper, when they came across a pickup truck pulling a log splitter. Spooked by the sight of it, the two-year-old lab-hound mix dashed towards the woods and disappeared completely.

The fur mom tried chasing him down immediately after he broke free. However, she was unable to catch up to him, so she decided to head home and start printing “lost dog” photographs of Copper. She then distributed them around her New Milford, Connecticut neighborhood, hoping that someone had seen him wandering the area.

Unfortunately, despite receiving some reported sightings of Copper, Jean still ended up empty-handed for almost two weeks. Well, that was until Amy LaRusso reached out to her on Day 13 and informed her that she had the pup in her care.

She said that she was playing video games at home when she heard some howls. After investigating the situation, she realized it wasn’t her dogs or her neighbor’s. It was Copper, who was sitting right in front of her door.

Jean was nothing short of dumbfounded at what she heard since Amy was about ten miles from where she initially lost the canine. This wasn’t the only weird thing, though. You see, Copper personally knew Amy as she worked in the kennel where the pup would occasionally stay whenever Jean went out of town.

However, the lab-hound had never been to her house before, so why and how he got there in the first place still remained a mystery. Nonetheless, the kennel worker happily took him in while Jean made her way to her house.

Copper did lose a few pounds and had some ticks since his disappearance, but nothing a good homemade meal and bath couldn’t fix. Look at Amy and the runaway canine here.
